Zagreb, 27.3.2012.

By signing the Treaty of Accession, the Republic of Croatia agreed to meet certain standards prescribed by the water utility directives (Water Framework Directive and Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive). The Implementation Plan for Water Utility Directives is a national document drafted for the purpose of describing the activities, deadlines and financial means necessary to meet these standards.
Due to the fact that financial means from the Structural and Cohesion Funds will be made available to Croatia upon accession to the EU, thorough preparation of projects from the water utility sector for the purpose of meeting the requirements of the Directives is underway.
So far Hrvatske vode have, in cooperation with the Ministry responsible for water management, identified 39 projects of the highest priority whose preparation is already underway, and recently compiled, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, a list of 16 new projects that need to be prepared. A meeting has been held in Hrvatske vode on the 27th March 2012 with the purpose of informing the final beneficiaries (towns and utility companies) of the 16 new projects about all the activities in project preparation and steps needed for project implementation to go smoothly. The meeting, attended by mayors and directors of utility companies, marked the successful beginning of long-term cooperation in the realization of future projects.
